Pastoral Care

A ten-session correspondence course introducing the principles and practicalities of biblical pastoral care. Ideal for anyone in a pastoral role in church including small group leaders.

The syllabus includes:

  • What is pastoral care?
  • The biblical basis of pastoral care
  • Pastoral care in the context of the Christian community
  • An overview of secular counselling models
  • The biblical understanding of sin and negative behaviour
  • The biblical process of change
  • Pitfalls in the pastoral relationship
  • The characteristics and causes of depression
  • Understanding addictive behaviours
  • Understanding self esteem, guilt, anger and fear

The course is an invaluable tool for anyone looking to gain a biblical understanding of common personal struggles and to equip themselves to undertake Bible-centred pastoral care. Students who successfully complete the optional modules are awarded an Open Bible Institute Certificate in Pastoral Care. Students should note, however, that this certificate is not a formal counselling qualification. The course is designed to help you carry out a pastoral role within a local congregation - not to equip you to carry out the role of a healthcare professional.

Fees: this course costs just £30

Students should note that this course is currently being offered as a stand-alone course only but in the future will also be offered as part of a Cert HE programme. Any students wishing to take the pastoral care module in the Cert HE in Biblical Studies and Ministry course are advised to contact the office for a discussion prior to enrolling on any short course.
