Exams

We recommend that you sit the exams, partly because the discipline of revision for exams will help you retain the information learned in the course. Please do not be put off by the possibility of failure, as it is always possible to re-sit the exam.

One of our students recently wrote: I have so much enjoyed and benefitted from the 'Introduction to the Bible' module. Whilst I found the prospect of an exam rather scary, I'm so glad I've done it because concentrated revision has really consolidated all that I've learned!

Our marking scale is as follows:

  • under 50% fail
  • 50 - 64% pass
  • 65 - 74% credit
  • 75 - 84% distinction
  • over 85% high distinction

Exams involve mainly essay-style answers and take two and a half hours.

Marking

Exam papers are usually sent to clergy and other appropriate people to be marked. All papers are marked in the UK and the results take approximately 8-10 weeks after the end of the exam period to reach you. Every effort is made to ensure that all papers are marked fairly. Markers are carefully instructed about the standards required. When they return the papers to the office their marks are moderated.

All papers between 45% and 49% are remarked and other randomly chosen papers are checked. A selection of papers are also sent over to Moore College in Sydney for moderation.

A cross-marking scheme is available to those who feel their paper has been marked unfairly.
